BUDO Martial Arts Academy provides martial arts training for children, teens, and adults in the Columbus, Ohio area, serving students from Whitehall, Reynoldsburg, and surrounding Central Ohio communities. Training focuses on Ninjutsu and Aikido-based martial arts, practical self-defense, situational awareness, movement, unarmed techniques, and weapons training for eligible students. Sensei Mike has taught martial arts since 2001 and holds multiple martial arts rankings, including 4th Dan in Yeshua-Do and 4th Dan in San Kaze Ryu Aiki Jujutsu. BUDO's goal is to develop practical martial arts ability while building confidence, discipline, focus, respect, and personal responsibility.

What Martial Arts Training Does Budo Martial Arts Offer?
Budo Martial Arts Academy trains students in ninjutsu and aikido-based systems of martial arts. Ninjutsu derives from Ninja training mixed in with conventional Ju Jitsu.
We also train students in Aikido, which is unarmed skills, weapons, ground fighting, and defense against multiple attackers.

What type of martial arts does BUDO teach?
BUDO teaches Ninjutsu and Aikido-based martial arts. Training can include unarmed techniques, joint locks, throws, striking, ground fighting, weapons training, movement, and practical self-defense.
Do you Train Kids in Martial Arts?
Yes. We start training kids at the age of 4 through adults. Michael Francis is great working with kids! Children really respond well to Michael's training. Many students comment on Micheal's ability to command respect while at the same time having fun with kids.
What areas do you service?
While we have a martial arts dojo in Whitehall, Ohio, we train students from all over the Columbus area, including Reynoldsburg, Columbus, Ohio proper, Gahanna, Pickerington, Canal Winchester, Westerville, Worthington, Pataskala, Etna, and more.
What age can a child start martial arts?
BUDO accepts children beginning at age 4 and also offers training for teens and adults. Children’s classes emphasize martial arts skills along with confidence, focus, discipline, respect, and awareness.

Yes. Martial arts experience is not required to begin training. Instruction can be adapted to the student's age, experience, and training goals.
How often should I attend martial arts classes?
Students are encouraged to attend at least 2 times a week or all 3 days of the week if able.
Students are able to attend all 3 times per week as part of their monthly fee.
Students are also encouraged to practice 5 minutes per day, and to practice their martial arts "while they watch TV or youtube."
Does BUDO teach practical self-defense?
Yes. BUDO incorporates practical self-defense training and scenario-based practice designed to help students understand how martial arts techniques can be applied in real-life situations.
Does BUDO offer weapons training?
Yes. BUDO offers specialized martial arts weapons training as part of its adult training program for students ages 13 and older. Ask BUDO about the current weapons curriculum and eligibility requirements.

What should a student wear?
Students are encouraged to wear their gi (uniform) during class, but it is not mandatory.
However, it is mandatory to wear a gi while doing their Testing and on the day they receive their new Belt.
Are parents allowed to watch?
Absolutely. Parents can be in the room while their children are taking classes.
